Thanks to the First Baptist Church of Westwood for sharing this news with Westwood Minute.
Rev. David Wright will be leading the worship service at the First Baptist Church of Westwood on Sunday, July 23 at 10:00 a.m., and the public is invited to hear this speaker, whom the church describes as "dynamic."
Rev. Wright is an ordained minister in the American Baptist Churches USA. He serves as the Assistant to the Pastor at Peoples Baptist Church in Roxbury, and is an adjunct professor at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. In addition, he is a bar certified attorney who obtained his J.D. degree from Harvard Law School.
Rev. Wright graduated from Harvard University and Harvard Law School, and spent six years as a practicing attorney. Following his law career, he and served as deputy director and then as executive director of the Black Ministerial Alliance of Greater Boston, Inc. (BMA), an organization founded in the 1960s, to help clergy address the racial, social, and economic injustices facing the Greater Boston community.
In 2020, Rev. Wright was instrumental in the merger of the BMA with the Boston TenPoint Coalition, an organization that has focused since the early 1990s on violence prevention and youth reformation in churches and the larger community.
He now serves as the executive director of the new organization, BMA TenPoint, Inc., which is an inclusive alliance of churches, faith and community-based organizations reaching around 20,000 ethnically-diverse parishioners and clients in Greater Boston.
The First Baptist Church is located at 800 High Street in Westwood. The church plans to hold the July 23rd worship service in the Baker Outdoor Chapel behind the church. Because summer services are casual and there is limited outdoor seating, it is suggested that those attending may wish to bring a folding chair. Should the weather not cooperate that day, the service will be held in the sanctuary which is air conditioned and accessible.
