Person Dies After Being Struck by Train in Norwood

At around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, Norwood Police Chief William Brooks (@ChiefBrooksNPD) noted on Twitter that a person was struck by a train between Norwood Depot and Norwood Central MBTA train stations, and that police were working on identifying the deceased person.

No time of death was indicated, but a few hours earlier, around 4:30 a.m., MBTA Commuter Rail (@MBTA_CR) asked the public traveling on the Franklin/Foxboro commuter rail line to consider alternate travel options due to "severe delays in both directions due to police activity in Norwood." MBTA also announced that the 5:05 a.m. Franklin Line Train was expected to be delayed due to the police activity. The approximate 4:30 a.m. time stamp of MBTA's tweet and its subsequent message of severe delays may indicate that the incident may have happened hours before the time of Chief Brooks' tweet.

At 6:30 a.m., MBTA requested that Franklin/Foxboro Line passengers from Norwood Central through Endicott stations board using the outbound platform. MBTA  indicated that the trains would be operating at reduced speed and on a single track in Norwood due to police activity.

Late Wednesday afternoon, Westwood Minute contacted Norwood Police for further information. Westwood Minute had not received a response by the time of this article's publication.
