Search Begins for New Assistant Superintendent of Westwood Public Schools
Westwood Public Schools Superintendent Timothy Piwowar on February 27th announced to the school community that a search for a new assistant superintendent is underway, because after 27 years in the district, Assistant Superintendent Allison Borchers is departing at the end of the 2023-24 school year to become superintendent of Westborough Public Schools.
On February 12th, by unanimous vote of Westborough School Committee, Ms. Borchers was named the next superintendent of that district. She is expected to begin her new duties in Westborough on July 1, 2024.
"Ms. Borchers has had a tremendous impact throughout her career in Westwood, and we wish her all the best as she prepares to start this next phase of her career," wrote Mr. Piwowar in his message to the school community.
Mr. Piwowar is putting together a "small search team" to meet next month. The team will screen and recommend applicants as finalists to the superintendent. Interviews of the finalists are scheduled for March 25th to March 27th. Additionally, the Westwood superintendent plans to invite the finalists to observe the district during the week of April 1st. Parent and staff forums are anticipated to be held on the afternoon and evening of April 3rd.
Before Ms. Borchers became Westwood's assistant superintendent in 2017, she served as Westwood's Thurston Middle School principal, assistant principal, and an eighth grade classroom teacher.
Ms. Borchers was one of three finalists whom the Westborough School Committee interviewed on February 7th. She will replace Amber Brock, the current superintendent of Westborough Public Schools, who leaves to become Head of School at Shore Country Day School in Beverly, Massachusetts.
