Multiple Reports of Breaking and Enterings of Westwood Residents' Vehicles on Monday Morning

On Monday morning, April 8, 2024, Westwood Police received multiple reports of breaking and enterings of vehicles in the neighborhood that lies north of Westwood's Hartford Street and west of Westwood's High Rock Street, and which includes Warwick Drive, Lancaster Drive, Wessex Drive, York Way, Westchester Drive, and Gloucester Road.

A few items of property were reported missing, with the highest value lost being a $200 pair of sunglasses. Many owners of the targeted vehicles confirmed to police that the vehicles were left unlocked overnight.

“We strongly urge all residents to lock their cars at night and not to leave valuables in them,” says Westwood Police Lieutenant Christopher Sheehy.

On Monday, Westwood Police received the following incident reports:

At 6:36 a.m., police received a call to report that a truck parked on Lancaster Drive had been entered and rummaged through. Nothing was noticed to be missing.

At 7:48 a.m., a caller reported that a vehicle on Warwick Drive had been entered overnight. Nothing was noticed to have been taken.

At 8:24 a.m. on Warwick Drive, police met with a homeowner who reported that their vehicle was entered overnight, and a pair of $200 Ray Ban sunglasses was taken. Before the theft, the vehicle had been unlocked and parked in the resident’s driveway.

At 8:47 a.m., a resident of Warwick Drive reported that a $10 bill was removed from a vehicle sometime after 3 a.m. that morning. The vehicle had been left unlocked before the theft.

At 9:26 a.m., a caller reported that the “whole street” of Wessex Drive had been hit by motor vehicle break-ins.

At 9:39 a.m., police took a report of three vehicles being rummaged through on Lancaster Drive, sometime overnight.

At 9:54 a.m., police spoke to a homeowner on Wessex Drive who reported that their vehicle had been entered. A cell phone was taken. The vehicle had been unlocked before the theft.

At 9:55 a.m., police received a report that a vehicle on Wessex Drive had been broken into. It is unclear if anything was taken.

At 10:06 a.m., on York Way, police received a report that an unlocked vehicle had been entered. The caller told police nothing was taken.

At 10:25 a.m., police received a report from Westchester Drive that two vehicles parked on the street had been entered. Both vehicles had been left unlocked overnight. It is unclear if anything was taken.

At 11:25 a.m., police received a report from a resident of Gloucester Road that the resident’s unlocked vehicle had been entered overnight. It is unclear if anything was taken.

At 12:04 p.m., a resident of Westchester Drive informed police that the resident’s unlocked vehicle had been entered. Nothing was damaged or taken.

The above incidents are all those reported to Westwood Police when Westwood Minute spoke with Lt. Sheehy on Monday afternoon, shortly after the report of the break-ins. The police incident reports were brief, as they had not yet been completed. There may be additional break-ins not yet reported.
