Shortly before 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024 in Westwood, a brief but severe thunderstorm swept through the area, dropping what some described as hail the size of ice cubes or marbles, approaching the diameter size of golf balls.

The hail, which began pea-sized, turned into larger hail in a short thunderstorm that lasted around 20 minutes.  Hail could be seen on lawns and decks of some Westwood residences and persisted in its icy form for a few hours.
