Town of Canton to Host Hurricane Helene Relief Drive
In early November, the Town of Canton will be holding a hurricane relief drive to gather donated items to be delivered to the area of Asheville, North Carolina. Residents and non-residents alike can contribute new, packaged items to the effort.
Requested items are:
Baby formula
Diapers and wipes
Personal hygiene items
Children's toys
Cellphone chargers and blocks
Rubbermaid plastic containers
Empty gas cans
Sleeping bags and air mattresses
New winter clothing
Work gloves
Dust masks
Goggles
Chemical resistant Tyvek suits
Extension cords (thick, yellow generator cords and heavy duty cords)
Metal shovels, rakes, and brooms
Hammers, screwdrivers, and drills
Screws and nails
Large tarps
Contractor bags
Wheelbarrows and wagons
Screws and nails
EX-up tents/camping tents
Power strips
Flashlights and batteries
Dollies
Hoses and spray nozzles
Tripod work lights
Cleaning supplies
Rags
Dehumidifiers
Generators
Chainsaws
Heavy-duty personal protective equipment (PPE)
Home Depot and Lowe's gift cards
"The Town of Canton is proud to stand with the people of North Carolina who have been impacted by recent hurricanes," Select Board Chair Mike Loughran said. "We understand the road to recovery is long, and we are eager to do our part to support those affected. We hope this donation drive will make a meaningful difference in the lives of these citizens, and we encourage all residents to consider donating to this important cause."
Donations can be dropped off from November 4 to November 8, from 9 AM to 5 PM daily at the Canton Police Department (1492 Washington St.) and Canton Fire Department Headquarters (99 Revere St.). Also, on November 9th, donations can be dropped fro 10 AM to 3 PM at 1860 Washington St., in Canton, the site of the former St. Gerard’s Church.
