The Norfolk District Attorney has identified the 80 year-old pedestrian who died in a motor vehicle accident in Norwood on Friday, November 1st, as Ellen Kana of Norwood. The victim's identity was released on Saturday afternoon.
The fatal accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Friday, said the office of Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey in a press release.
A resident of Norwood, who witnessed the arrival of ambulance and police, told Westwood Minute that emergency response teams arrived at the corner of Garfield Avenue and Pleasant Street around 5:00 p.m. She said that they performed CPR on the victim for a long time before stopping the life-saving measure. She described the area of the accident as being near an elementary school. (Callahan Elementary School is situated on Garfield Street, less than a block away from where the resident witnessed the activity.)
The driver remained at the scene. Massachusetts State Police are performing accident reconstruction.
In a posting to Facebook on Friday evening, Norwood Police noted that according to witnesses, solar glare may have been a factor.
No charges have been filed at this time. The accident remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section, the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office, and Norwood Police.
