The Westwood Town Election is coming up on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, and voters can take advantage of a number of different ways to vote. There's in-person early voting, early voting by mail, absentee voting, and in-person voting on Town Election Day to choose from.
Voters who choose to vote early by mail need to make their requests to the Town Clerk no later than 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, 2021. Applications for early voting by mail can be downloaded here, and can also obtained at the Westwood Police Department's lobby or by contacting the Town Clerk's office. Ballots can be returned in-person to the secure drop-box outside the Westwood Police Department at 588 High Street or by mail. The town has noted that votes must be received by the Town Clerk's office by the close of polls on Election Day, Wednesday, April 28th.
Another way to vote by mail is by absentee ballot. Like early voting by mail, an absentee ballot request should be mailed to the Town Clerk's office no later than 5 p.m. on Thursday this week. Normally, absentee ballots are only allowed for voters who are out of town on Election Day, or voters who have a disability or religious belief that would be an obstacle to voting at the polls. Right now, quarantining or being admitted to a hospital within a week of the election is reason to qualify for an absentee ballot as a physical disability. Applications for an absentee ballot can be downloaded here, and can be obtained at the Westwood Police Department or by contacting the Town Clerk's office. A written request to the Town Clerk with the voter's signature also suffices. Votes can be cast in-person or by mail, and must be received by the Town Clerk's office by the close of polls on Town Election Day.
Another option for early voting is in-person voting at the Westwood Police Department's Jaillet Meeting Room. Polls at the police station are open from the end of this week through the beginning of next week. Voters may cast early votes in person on Friday, April 23rd from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, April 24th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. or Sunday, April 25th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In-person voting on Election Day, to which most are accustomed, will take place on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Westwood's polling places are as follows: Precinct 1 at Council on Aging at 60 Nahatan Street; Precinct 2 at Sheehan School at 549 Pond Street; Precinct 3 at Hanlon School at 790 Gay Street and Precinct 4 at Downey School at 250 Downey Street.
