Westwood inaugural Poet Laureate Lynne Viti has been awarded second prize in the 2025 Joe Gouveia Outermost Poetry Contest, regional category, for her poem “Little Skate on Ballston Beach.” The annual contest, sponsored by Outermost Community radio WOMR, honors the legacy of the late Cape Cod Poet Laureate Joe Gouveia and his dedication to the poetry community. Esteemed judge Marge Piercy selected the winners and finalists in both the national and regional categories.
Viti’s prize-winning poem can be found at https://www.americamagazine.org/arts-culture/2025/01/16/little-skate-lynne-viti-249623.
The cost of $27,000 could have been avoided if the tax payers were notified about the idea of taking the WLT to court and it was discussed at a regular town meeting. Especially when a town takes the unusual step of taking its own land trust to court.
Sunny, with a high of 47 and low of 29 degrees. Sunny for the morning, partly cloudy for the afternoon and evening, clear overnight.
