Thanks to Westwood Food Pantry for sharing this news with Westwood Minute.
It’s becoming an annual April tradition in Westwood - Eddie’s Food Drive in support of the Westwood Food Pantry. Providing meals for others was an important cause to
Eddie Thomson, who passed away at the age on six on November 21, 2017. Eddie’s family and supporters continue to honor his memory by organizing the annual drive in his name.
Once again, the Westwood Girl Scouts kicked off the drive by donating hundreds of boxes of Girl Scout cookies in early April - a sweet treat for the pantry’s many clients. Roche Brothers Supermarket, Westwood Public Library, Wentworth Hall, the Council on Aging, Westwood Public Schools, Westwood Extended Day Programs, Westwood Children's School, and the Tobin School all hosted collection sites for non-perishable food items.
Many groups and families made monetary donations as well. The Cub Scouts held a fund drive at their Pinewood Derby that netted $500. All these donations will be used to buy supplemental food and household supplies for pantry clients.
The Food Pantry Board notes that it received generous and compassionate support of Eddie's Food Drive from everyone, especially the Thomson family and the Westwood community. These efforts will help keep the pantry shelves stocked for a while.
