Norwood, Dedham, Canton Residents Among Winners Announced in 2025 Blue Hills Photo Contest

Local residents from Norwood, Dedham, and Canton are among the winners announced early this November by Friends of the Blue Hills (FBH) in its 2025 Blue Hills Photo Contest, a competition that has been running each year, for over a decade.

This year’s contest drew submissions from all over the local area, showcasing the natural beauty, wildlife, and outdoor adventures that Blue Hills Reservation has to offer.

The three categories of competition were Be Kind!, What Lives in theBlue Hills? and Choose Your Own Adventure. Additionally, a winner by popular vote was announced.

What Lives in the Blue Hills? category

  • 1st place: “Blue Jay Walking Trail” by Justin Calka of Watertown
  • 2nd place: “Splash of Color” by William Riley of Milton
  • 3rd place: “Through the Veil” by Jack Bruneau of Dedham

Choose Your Own Adventure category

  • 1st place: “End of the Line” by Anne Herbst of Boston
  • 2nd place: “Blue Hills Memories” by Conor Brosnan of Norwood
  • 3rd place: “Fall Splendor” by Mary Ciccariello of Quincy

    Be Kind! category

    • 1st place: “Fishing with Uncle” by Macaela Vandermost of Milton
    • 2nd place: “Dancing Mushrooms” by Roxana Rubin of Canton
    • 3rd place: “Deer at Ponkapoag Golf Course June 2025” by Richard Ortisi of Randolph

    Winner by popular vote was "Coco Fall Hiker" by Roxana Rubin.

    Winners received complimentary printing and framing of their winning photos by Page Waterman Gallery and Framing, along with prizes from Patagonia Boston.

    More than 75 photos were submitted, and three winning images in each category were selected by a panel of five judges: Matt Darcy, professional photographer; Peter Marotta, FBH trustee at large; Waddy Stryker, Outdoor Instructor & Manager of Special Projects with Elevate Youth; Sturdy Waterman, FBH member and owner of Page Waterman Gallery and Framing in Natick; and State Representative Richard Wells.
