Westwood Police Investigate Fatal Route 1 Crash
A 32-year-old Walpole man has died following a single-car motor vehicle crash that occurred around 4 p.m. on Monday, June 29, at the Budget Inn at 71 Providence Highway in Westwood, according to Westwood Police in a statement dated June 30. The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.
According to Westwood Police, officers arrived at the Budget Inn to find a Nissan Rogue which had struck a utility pole, causing the pole to fall and knock out power in the area. After striking the pole, the vehicle continued on and struck the Budget Inn, causing significant structural damage.
Westwood Police note that Westwood Fire Department extracted the operator, and transported him to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston with serious life-threatening injuries. He was later pronounced deceased.
Massachusetts State Police also responded, and utility companies worked through the night to restore service. Westwood Police Department Detectives are actively collaborating with the Massachusetts State Police Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Section (C.A.R.S.) to determine the cause of the crash.
