The news described in this installment of Westwood Minute's weekly Police Log article series is primarily based on selected incidents from the Westwood Police Department's daily log, and information provided by Detective Lieutenant Christopher Aylward and police staff to Westwood Minute through written records and conversations. Occasionally, Westwood Minute may incorporate facts that it obtains from other sources into these stories.
Stolen Gym Bag
11:54 a.m. A resident of Laura Lane contacted police regarding a gym bag that is believed to have been stolen after it was left on Saturday, June 20, at the Life Time Fitness health center on Harvard Street.
Juvenile Arrested for Assault and Battery on a Police Officer
2:14 p.m. Police responded to the CVS store on Washington Street where a 17 year-old suspect was reportedly using store cosmetics in the store’s restroom, without paying for them. The suspect reportedly resisted police, kicking and biting officers who attempted to arrest her. She is believed to have taken $87 worth of store merchandise without paying. Police charged the teenager – believed to be a resident of Springfield - with three counts of assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, and shoplifting. She was released to the custody of the Department of Children and Families and was summoned to court on Thursday, June 25.
Noise Complaint at Same Address, Twice
9:32 p.m. Police visited a residence on Willard Circle after receiving a noise complaint. Police found loud music from a graduation party and advised the residents to lower the volume, which they did.
10:21 p.m. Police received a second complaint of a disturbance from a graduation party on Willard Circle. The music had been turned down after the first complaint, but after less than one hour, the volume was reportedly louder than before. Police visited the address again to advise the residents to cease the disturbance.
Who Had Right of Way?
1:12 a.m. Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Clapboardtree and Washington streets. The drivers of each SUV told police they believed they had a green light and the right of way. Police determined that one party had continued moving through a red light but were unable to determine which party – both residents of Dorchester – was at fault.
Speeding Vehicle Downs Telephone Pole and Wires, Closing Route 1
2:56 a.m. A 2023 Honda Civic crashed at Southwest Park after reportedly speeding on Providence Highway and being unable to safely make the turn into Southwest Parkway. The vehicle hit a telephone pole at the intersection, causing wires to fall across Providence Highway. The road was closed to traffic for a few hours while the debris was cleared and the road was made safe. No injuries were reported.
Cell Phone Mislaid in Eatery Is Swiped by Another Customer
12:05 p.m. A customer of Dunkin’ on Providence Highway reported leaving a cell phone at the cashier’s counter and returning to the store to find it no longer there. Another customer reportedly had picked up the phone and left with it. He was described as a light-skinned male wearing a navy USA soccer cap and white T-shirt with green shorts.
Allowing Only Ten Items or Less
12:56 p.m. Police received a complaint from staff at the Target store on University Avenue regarding a mother and her child who attempted to check out in a cashier's line for 10 or fewer items when they were shopping together with two different carts containing 15 items between them. The customers and the employee at the register argued, and police were called to mediate.
Gun Waved, Shots Fired
6:16 p.m. Massachusetts State Police advised Westwood Police that a caller had reported someone waving a gun in the area of Interstate 95 near the University Avenue exit. State police also reported that an active shooting had taken place between two people on motorbikes who had been traveling on Interstate 95, and along Route 1 to University Avenue. Westwood Police responded to check the area but were unable to locate the individuals.
Argument Disturbs the Peace
4:30 p.m. Police received a report of a disturbance on Summer Street, near the High Street intersection. Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered two brothers, one without a shirt, and both were loudly yelling at each other. Their vehicle had run out of gas. Police advised them of the noise complaint. They reportedly did not realize they were causing a disturbance.
World Cup Fan Loses Thousands in Hotel Room
7:47 p.m. A visitor from Ontario, Canada reported a theft from the visitor’s hotel room while staying at the Courtyard Marriott on University Avenue. The visitor was in town for the World Cup, and had left the room with $3,800 in cash on the hotel dresser. When the visitor returned, the cash was missing.
Parking By the Pond
1:12 a.m. Police responded to the parking lot at Buckmaster Pond on Pond Street where a vehicle was parked at an early morning hour. Police sent the driver on their way.
Numerous Motor Vehicle Break-Ins Across Islington
7:14 a.m. Police received a report of a motor vehicle break-in on Cobleigh Street.
8:34 a.m. Police received a report of a motor vehicle break-in on Westdale Road.
9:02 a.m. Police received a report of a motor vehicle break-in on Elm Street.
9:23 a.m. Police received a report of a motor vehicle break-in on Grafton Avenue.
9:51 a.m. Police received a report of a motor vehicle break-in on Smith Drive.
10:24 a.m. Police received a report of a motor vehicle break-in on Carroll Avenue.
10:51 a.m. Police received a report of a motor vehicle break-in on Hillview Road.
12:49 p.m. Police received a report of a motor vehicle break-in on Smith Drive.
1:22 p.m. Police received a report of a motor vehicle break-in on Cherry Street.

Westwood Resident Arrested for Shoplifting, Third Offense
3:23 p.m. Police responded to Wegmans supermarket on University Avenue where store staff reported a shoplifting in progress. Staff reported observing a woman exiting the store with alcohol, lobster tails, and other food for which she had not paid. She entered the passenger seat of a vehicle, which police located and stopped. The 65-year-old woman, a Westwood resident, was arrested and charged with shoplifting, third offense. The merchandise she is accused of stealing merchandise was valued at $334.
Shoplifting Suspects Pay for Merchandise, Avoid Charges and Arrest
4:17 p.m. Nordstrom Rack on University Avenue contacted police after reportedly observing individuals taking store security sensors off store merchandise. Additionally, one of the suspects was reported to be wearing different shoes than the shoes they had worn into the store. A responding officer stood outside the store to intercept the suspects. However, they paid for their items and left the store.
Crash at Nahatan and Clapboardtree Streets Sends Resident to Hospital
4:40 p.m. A Westwood resident was transported to the hospital after a two-vehicle crash on at the intersection of Nahatan and Clapboardtree streets. The resident was traveling in a Mini Cooper on Clapboardtree Street, attempting to cross Nahatan Street, when the Mini Cooper was struck by a Nissan Rogue, driven by another Westwood resident who was traveling on Nahatan Street toward Norwood. Police issued a verbal warning to the driver of the Nissan Rogue for failing to yield at a stop sign.
Complaint about Unbuckled Children
7:03 p.m. Police received a report of a white truck pulling a black trailer with children inside, unbuckled. Police located the vehicle in the area of Lowder Brook Drive and advised the driver of the complaint.
Two-Car Crash at High and North Streets
5:03 p.m. Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on High Street at the North Street intersection. A Milford resident was in a vehicle on North Street, preparing to make a left turn onto High Street while a Dover resident was traveling in a vehicle, headed east on High Street. The Milford resident reportedly failed to stop at the intersection stop sign before making the left turn and struck the other car in the side. One driver complained of minor pain but both individuals were able to drive away from the accident. Police cited the Milford resident for failure to yield.
Vandalism Allegation Is Not Substantiated
5:18 p.m. Police received a complaint by someone who reported their car was vandalized while parked outside the Toast Office restaurant on High Street. Police investigated and based on camera footage, determined that the damage complained of did not happen while the vehicle was parked outside the restaurant.
Email Imposter
10:12 a.m. First Parish of Westwood on Nahatan Street reported receiving an email from someone impersonating a member of staff, requesting a change of bank account for depositing the employee’s payroll funds. The employee had not requested such a change. The incident was reported to police with no monetary loss.
Water Balloon Thrown at Moving Vehicle
2:18 p.m. A caller reported someone had thrown a water balloon at their vehicle while the caller had been driving on High Street near the Burgess Avenue intersection.
