Victim of Multiple Gun Shots in Norwood Does Not Survive Emergency Surgery (Updated)
The victim of multiple gunshots fired in Norwood on Sunday, September 19, 2021 has died, Norwood Police Department has reported in a Facebook posting on Monday morning, September 20, 2021.
At 5:20 p.m. on Sunday, September 19, 2021, Norwood Police contacted Westwood Police for assistance with a shooting in Norwood on Sturtevant Avenue. Westwood Police learned that an individual had been shot multiple times. Westwood Police’s K-9 officer responded to the call.
On Monday morning, September 20,2021, around 9:30 a.m., Norwood Police Department conveyed an update on its Facebook page from the Norfolk County District Attorney that the shooting victim, 28 year-old Shakim L. Lewis-Johnson of Hyde Park, has died. He had been shot while leaving his friend's home on Sturtevant Avenue in Norwood.
Norwood Police became involved after the sounds of multiple gun shots were heard on Sunday evening, shortly after 5:00 p.m.
On Facebook and Twitter, Norwood Police and Police Chief Brooks report that police discovered Mr. Lewis-Johnson suffering from "obvious wounds" and that a Boston MedFlight helicopter transported him to Massachusetts General Hospital. He died during emergency surgery.
Norwood Police note that their investigation suggests that the shooter left the scene. Norwood Police Chief William Brooks assured the public that the shooting does not appear to be random, and the public is not at risk.
Norwood Police detectives, along with the state's homicide detectives from Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey's office, are continuing the investigation that went through Sunday night.
