How WPS and Area School Districts Compare with State, Each Other, in Newly Released MCAS Student Test Results (Updated)
The large majority of students in Westwood Public Schools are meeting or exceeding expectations for their grade level, but a significant number are not, according to MCAS results the Massachusetts Department of Education released on its website on Tuesday, September 21, 2021.
Taken together, the results show that in the area of English Language Arts (ELA), 75 percent of WPS students in Grades 3 to 8 are meeting or exceeding grade level expectations. Twenty-five percent are partially meeting or not meeting expectations.
In mathematics, 62 percent of WPS students in Grade 3 to Grade 8 are meeting or exceeding expectations in math. There were 38 percent who tested as partially meeting expectations or not meeting expectations.
For WPS Grade 10 students in ELA, 84 percent of students are meeting or exceeding expectations. Sixteen percent are partially meeting or not meeting expectations.
For WPS Grade 10 students in math, the numbers are 80 percent and 20 percent, respectively.
Statewide in English, 46 percent of Grade 3 to Grade 8 students are meeting or exceeding expectations. The majority, or 54 percent, are not. For Grade 10, 64 percent are meeting or exceeding expectations.
Statewide in math, the testing data that shows only 34 percent of Grade 3 to Grade 8 students throughout the state are meeting or exceeding expectations in math. The majority of Grade 3 to 8 students in Massachusetts, or 67 percent, are partially meeting or not meeting expectations. For Grade 10, 52 percent of students are meeting or exceeding expectations.
Westwood Minute has compiled newly released MCAS data to show how Westwood students performed relative to other area schools and statewide results. An average scaled score of 530 to 560 means Exceeding Expectations, 500 to 529 is Meeting Expectations, 470 to 499 is Partially Meeting Expectations, and 440 to 469 is Not Meeting Expectations.
The MCAS tests children in grades 3 through 8, along with grade 10. The participation from WPS students in those grades was 99 percent to 100 percent.
