The Westwood Cultural Council (WCC) has extended its application deadline by two weeks and is still accepting applications for grants to fund cultural programs to be held in Westwood next year. The new grant application deadline is November 1, 2021. The previous deadline was October 15, 2021.
The purpose of a WCC grant is to promote excellence, access, education and diversity in the arts, sciences and humanities to improve the community, economics and quality of life in Westwood.
Eligible programs are those that may include the study, pursuit, performance, exhibition, and appreciation of cultural activities.
Cultural activities should contribute to the cultural vitality of the community as a whole. They may be activities in the arts, humanities (including but not limited to history, social studies, philosophy, criticism and literature) and interpretive sciences (e.g. learning that deals with nature, science and technology in relation to people’s lives such as a botanical garden, science center, and natural history museum).
WCC is a local cultural council program of Mass Cultural Council. WCC distributes grant funding from Mass Cultural Council. The allocation to WCC for fiscal year 2022 is $6,300.
Mass Cultural Council allows local cultural councils to accept applicants who reside or are located in Massachusetts. Applicants may be individuals, incorporated private nonprofit organizations, unincorporated associations with a nonprofit objective, public schools, libraries, municipal agencies, and religious organizations with some conditions.
Examples of where WCC could direct its grants include but are not limited to projects, ticket subsidy programs, artist residences, fellowships and other activities. In the past, WCC has usually awarded around eight grants a year to venues within the town, such as the town's library, senior center, schools, and historical society.
In 2021, WCC awarded grants to the Audubon Society to host walks for seniors in Canton, the Historical Society and the Westwood Public Library for a Zoom lecture, a painting class at the library, an entertainment event at the Senior Center, a piano concert presented by Westwood Media Center, and a Zoom visit for Thurston Middle School students with a Newberry Award winning author.
Application information is available at https://massculturalcouncil.org/local-council/westwood/ and on the Massachusetts Cultural Council website.
