Below is a selection of easy to access, local events around Westwood to help you plan for your weekend while getting into the holiday spirit.
Friday, January 7th
The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Coolidge Corner Theatre, 290 Harvard Street, Brookline. 11:59 p.m. This cult classic film features Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick and Meat Loaf. It’s the story of two travelers caught in a thunderstorm who find themselves in the castle of a transvestite mad scientist from outer space. Vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test is required. Tickets can be purchased online and are $14 per person with a $2.75 service fee.
Westwood Varsity Boys Basketball vs. Hopkinton, Westwood High School Gym, 200 Nahatan Street, Westwood. POSTPONED. It’s always a good time to cheer on the home team, but especially after a snowstorm, a home game makes a great choice for easy-to-access entertainment.
Taylor Hicks concert, TCAN, 14 Summer Street, Natick. 8:00 p.m. The winner of Season 5 of AMERICAN IDOL comes to Natick performing Bob Seger’s classics and more. Tickets can be purchased online and are $30 for TCAN members and $35 for the general public. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and a face covering are required.

Saturday, January 8th
Fire Pit Saturdays at Powisset Farm, 37 Powisset Street, Dover. 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Enjoy two hours at your own fire pit for six people along with a private picnic table, extra wood, and equipment for making six s’mores. The cost is $9 per member adult/child and $60 per member family, or $15 per nonmember adult/child and $75 per nonmember family. Registration is required.
Sunday, January 9th
Matthew Graybil and Rhiannon Banerdt Concert, online on YouTube or in-person at Framingham Main Library, Costin Room, 49 Lexington Street, Framingham. Mr. Graybil plays the piano while Ms. Banerdt joins on violin. No registration is required, but in-person space is limited to first come, first served. The live, online performance can be viewed at youtube.com/framinghampubliclibrary.
Legacy SWEAT, Legacy Sweat Indoor Studio, 220 Legacy Place, Dedham. 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Advance registration is required for this free, indoor fitness class, sponsored by PNC Bank. Before registering and attending, participants are asked to agree to a Release and Waiver. Instructor Liah Malley will lead the class in 45 minutes of exercises to improve stamina and strength. All fitness levels are welcome, as movement modifications will be offered. Bring a mat and positivity. A set of 3-10 lb. weights are optional. Masks are also optional.
Through the Weekend
Winterlights at The Bradley Estate, Eleanor Cabot Bradley Estate, 2468B Washington Street (Route 138), Canton. 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tickets for this annual outdoor experience were scarce around the holidays, but there are plenty of openings to view the estate’s beautiful display of holiday lights in its last weekend. Tickets are $15-$20 per member adult and $5 per member child or $20-$25 per nonmember adult and $10 per nonmember child. Register for a time slot here.
Winter Skate at Patriot Place, 2 Patriot Place, Foxborough. Hours are 4;00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday. Westwood Minute here makes a correction to the incorrect statement made in last week’s Things to Do around Westwood this New Year’s Eve Weekend, regarding the closure date of this rink. The rink remains open this weekend. The refrigerated outdoor rink is designed for recreational skating, non-contact hockey and figure skating. Shopping and dining are just steps away. Admission is $10 for adults, and $6 for children aged 12 and under and seniors. Skates can be rented for $5. Tickets can be reserved online here.
