Thanks to Mr. Tony Mullin for contributing this news to Westwood Minute.

Anthony “Tony” Mullin who has served on the Westwood School Committee since 2016 announced that he is running for re-election. The Westwood town election will take place on Tuesday, April 26, 2022.

Mullin lives in Westwood with his two daughters, Katie and Maggie, both of whom attend Westwood Public Schools. “It is all about them,” Mullin stated. “The future of Westwood is our children. I am running for re-election to the Westwood School Committee because I want to continue to be a voice for the 3,000 Westwood children.”

Mullin received his BA in economics from Boston College and MBA from MIT Sloan. He has over 15 years of human resources experience in the biotech industry and was most recently the Chief People Officer for Pandion Therapeutics. Mullin stated, “My business and human resources background has been extremely valuable in many of the responsibilities of the School Committee including reviewing the annual budget and negotiating collective bargaining agreements.”

Beyond his service on the Westwood School Committee, Mullin has been active in several youth focused volunteer activities. Mullin has served on the Westwood Youth Soccer Board for eight years, is on the Norfolk County Sheriff's Office Youth Substance Use and Mental Health Task Force, is the Massachusetts Chapter Leader of Start School Later and is running the Boston Marathon in support of Boston Children’s Hospital.

Mullin cited the progress Westwood has made on the key priorities he outlined when he first ran for School Committee:

  • “We have made great progress supporting the whole child in our schools through the investments in additional counsellors, social workers and a SEL coordinator. Our Westwood Schools are not only preparing our children for college, but also for life.”
  • “We have enhanced Westwood’s academic excellence through smaller class sizes that has led to all five of our elementary schools being recognized in the top 5% in the state by US News. We have received national recognition for the Downey School as a National Blue Ribbon School.”

Mullin finished, “The most important responsibility of a School Committee member is to listen. I would love to hear from residents.”
