On Saturday, October 11, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Friends of the Blue Hills invite the community to a one-of-a-kind autumn adventure.
Hike to the summit, either on your own or with one of our friendly hike leaders, and enjoy a BYO picnic dinner with a view as live music by Retro Rockets fills the air.
For safety and planning purposes, all participants are asked to preregister at friendsofthebluehills.org/event/2025-sunset-hike. Additionally, all hikers should check inat the table at the beginning of the Red Dot Trail near the Trailside Museum before embarking on the hike. Hikers are encouraged to bring flashlights or headlamps.
Free parking is available at Blue Hills Ski Area, 4001 Washington Street, Canton. Themain lot fills up quickly, so carpooling is recommended if possible. Overflow parking is nearby. We also want to inform people that the 716 bus runs every 90 minutes from Mattapan Station.
To register, visit friendsofthebluehills.org/event/2025-sunset-hike. For questions, email info@FriendsoftheBlueHills.org.

This is progress and I am glad to see the Select Board moving in the right direction. However, a majority of voters at last Monday's Special Town Meeting voted to recommend that the Select Board immediately cease its lawsuit against the Westwood Land Trust.
What is the citizen's petition about? I checked the town website, and the only information I could find on town meeting articles was from last year. The public hearing dates for 2026 are posted as February 24-25.
Apparently, you need to submit a public records request through the town's FOIA portal. What a shame, since it should have been posted to the town website upon certification of petition signatures.
Westwood Minute has obtained a copy of the petition and has added a short description of it to the article. A copy of the petition is attached below the article.
