How to Participate in Town Government - Week of April 9, 2023

This week, meetings of town government largely return to the in-person meeting format. Meetings of interest may include:

Mon. 4/10 - Board of Assessors hears an update on the Long Range Financial Planning Committee

Tues. 4/11 - Planning Board holds four public hearings, including continuing one on proposals to amend the town's bylaws regarding sustainability, earth material movement, and dumpsters.

Wed. 4/12 - A Public Hearing is held on a proposed budget for Norfolk County for FY 2024


MONDAY

Board of Assessors In-Person Meeting, Monday, April 10, 2023 at 8:30 a.m. The board will hear an update on the town's Long Range Financial Planning Committee and, among other things, will discuss the current Appellate Tax Board case regarding Abbey Rd. School Committee Policy Review Subcommittee  In-Person Meeting, Monday, April 10, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. The subcommittee will review and evaluate policies on Community Relations (Section K). This meeting will be held in the Professional Development Room of Westwood High School at 220 Nahatan Street. For additional details, click here.


Board of Library Trustees In-Person Meeting, Monday, April 10, 2023 at 7:00 p.m.  Included on the agenda are a discussion of action items under the Strategic Plan and updates on budget, Westwood's Poet Laureate, and the 21st Century Fund. This meeting will be held in the Wentworth Hall Meeting Room of the Islington Branch Library at 273 Washington Street. For additional details, click here.


TUESDAY

Planning Board Public Hearings and Meeting via Zoom, Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. On the agenda are a continuation of four public hearings concerning:

  • Potential amendments to zoning bylaws related to sustainability, earth material movement, and dumpsters.
  • Wireless Communications Overlay District Special Permit for Verizon at 690 Canton Street or a modification of an Environmental Impact & Design Review (EIDR) at the same address
  • Flexible Multiple Use Overlay District (FMUOD) special permit for rehabilitation and expansion of the historic Obed Baker House and construction of a new veterinary facility at 909 High Street
  • FMUOD special permit for mixed use redevelopment at 436 Washington Street

Planning Board will also consider Proposed Approval Not Required (ANR) Plan for the properties at 490 Gay Street, 290 Summer Street and 394-396 Providence Highway.

WHA/WAHA Meeting via Zoom, Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. Discussion will include LAU approval status of 22 School Street; a WHA/WAHA Long Range Financial Planning Committee Report regarding a five-year plan, future spending and property purchasing; and property renovations projects update, among other items.

WEDNESDAY

Joint Permanent Building Committee/School Building Committee In-Person Meeting, Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. On the agenda are updates regarding construction, schedule, budget along with an FFE presentation, a review of Multivista proprosal, among other items. Norfolk Advisory Board Public Hearing on Proposed Budget for Norfolk County for Fiscal Year 2024, Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. This public hearing will be held in the Main Conference Room of Norfolk County Agricultural High School at 400 Main Street in Walpole. Conservation Commission In-Person Public Hearings and Meeting, Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. On the agenda are the following public hearings:

  • Notice of Intent regarding mixed use residential development at 22 Everett Street (with notation, "This hearing will be continued without discussion.")
  • Notice of Intent regarding converting the historic Obed Baker House into a residential duplex with rear addition, constructing a new animal hospital, and demolishing a cemetery maintenance shed by Sullivan
  • 3 Notices of Intent regarding new construction at the following properties: 350 Blue Hill Avenue Lots 1, 2, and 3
  • Stormwater Land Disturbance and construction of a new house and landscaping at 510 Far Reach Road

Also to be discussed are a potential tree policy/ordinance/bylaw, among other items.

THURSDAY

Town Clerk Tests Voting Machines for Town Election, Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 8:30 a.m. Testing of voting equipment for the 2023 Annual Town Election to be held on April 25th will take place in the lower level offices of Westwood Town Hall at 580 High Street.
