At Westwood's Annual Town Election on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, where no race presented more candidates than the number of open seats available, incumbents running for re-election came out as the top vote getters above write-in candidates for their respective seats, as to be expected. The Planning Board welcomes one new member, Sean Weller, who fills one of two available seats on that committee.
Heather Morrison made a run as a write-in candidate for the open seat on School Committee. She secured 207 votes (11.7 percent of votes cast) to incumbent Maya Plotkin who received 1,416 votes (80 percent of votes cast). Only 8 additional write-in votes were for candidates other than Ms. Morrison.
The unofficial results of the election show a continuation of current town governing officials in their respective offices, with the addition of Mr. Weller to Westwood Planning Board:
Assessor - Nancy C. Hyde
Housing Authority - Louis A. Rizoli
Library Trustee - Mary E. Masi-Phelps, Maria Ryan
Moderator - James M. O'Sullivan
Planning Board - Ellen Larkin Rollings, Sean R. Weller
School Committee - Maya Khuri Plotkin
Select Board - Robert R. Gotti
Sewer Commissioner - Diane E. Hayes
Treasurer - Philip N. Shapiro
Following is a chart of the election outcome, as announced by Town Clerk Dottie Powers:

Partly Cloudy , with a high of 36 and low of 20 degrees. Partly Cloudy in the morning, overcast in the afternoon, clear overnight.
This is progress and I am glad to see the Select Board moving in the right direction. However, a majority of voters at last Monday's Special Town Meeting voted to recommend that the Select Board immediately cease its lawsuit against the Westwood Land Trust.
What is the citizen's petition about? I checked the town website, and the only information I could find on town meeting articles was from last year. The public hearing dates for 2026 are posted as February 24-25.
Apparently, you need to submit a public records request through the town's FOIA portal. What a shame, since it should have been posted to the town website upon certification of petition signatures.
Westwood Minute has obtained a copy of the petition and has added a short description of it to the article. A copy of the petition is attached below the article.
