How Westwood Voted in Tuesday's Presidential Primary

Image

Westwood’s registered Democrats who voted on Tuesday overwhelmingly want Joe Biden as their party’s presidential nominee; for Westwood’s registered, voting Republicans, it was Nikki Haley over Donald Trump, according to the unofficial results of Presidential Primary voting from the Town Clerk’s office. (However, Ms. Haley has since ended her presidential campaign after much weaker showings elsewhere around the country.)

Nikki Haley edged out Donald Trump, with 1,044 votes to 918 votes from Westwood’s registered Republicans, a difference of 126 votes. Chris Christie was in distant third place with 24 votes.

Joe Biden was the clear favorite among Westwood’s voting Democrats, with 1,446 votes to 173 votes of his nearest competitor, “No Preference.” The other two candidates were Dean Phillips, who received 85 votes, and Marianne Williamson, who received 36 votes.

Almost the exact same number of registered voters came out from each of the two main political parties. The Town Clerk’s unofficial tally shows that 2,030 Democrats and 2,032 Republicans voted on Tuesday.

The ballots on Tuesday also included elections for party officers at state and local, or “town," level.
