The Perseid Meteor Shower, a celestial event that occurs when the Earth passes through the trail of debris of ice and rock from Comet Swift-Tuttle, begins its peak in the late evening of August 11th through dawn of August 12th.
If you miss the peak, you still have a good chance of seeing a meteor or more in the few days following the peak. The sky show should be able to be viewed even in areas with moderate light pollution.
To prepare for viewing, find a spot away from artificial lights and allow about 30 minutes for your eyes to adjust to the darkness. Consider lying back on a pad or reclining chair with a blanket for comfortable viewing, and don't forget the insect repellent!
