Westwood In a Minute: Monday's Beaver Moon

Image

Photo by Westwood Minute/Darlene Wong Cancell. The moon on Monday night, November 27, 2023 was striking. As seen it Westwood, it was surrounded by an unusual ring of light and color.

The moon this week has been unusually striking. Monday's moon on November 27th was the Beaver Moon, and the second to last full moon of this year.

The name, Beaver Moon, may come from the time of year for setting traps for fur, before swamps froze. Or it may reference this most active time for beavers who are preparing for winter.

The final full moon of this year will be the Cold Moon, which can be viewed on December 26, 2023.
