Thanks to the Town of Westwood for sharing this news with Westwood Minute.
The Westwood Fire Department is rescheduling its open house at Fire Station 1 (637 High Street), originally scheduled for Saturday, October 19th, to the new date of Saturday, October 26th, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The day will feature a Touch a Truck event, where children will be able to meet firefighters, learn about the fire station, and climb aboard fire engines and ladder trucks.
Residents are encouraged to attend and take a tour of Fire Station 1 and learn more about the town’s plan to build a new main fire station on High St. Westwood Fire Chief Steven Lund and Assistant Fire Chief Colin McCarthy will conduct the tours and be available to answer questions about the need for a new main station.
The building, initially built in 1948, has multiple structural deficiencies and no longer meets safety standards. At next spring’s town meeting, residents will be asked to vote on funding a new station at the existing site.
Partly Cloudy , with a high of 36 and low of 20 degrees. Partly Cloudy during the morning, overcast for the afternoon, clear overnight.
This is progress and I am glad to see the Select Board moving in the right direction. However, a majority of voters at last Monday's Special Town Meeting voted to recommend that the Select Board immediately cease its lawsuit against the Westwood Land Trust.
What is the citizen's petition about? I checked the town website, and the only information I could find on town meeting articles was from last year. The public hearing dates for 2026 are posted as February 24-25.
Apparently, you need to submit a public records request through the town's FOIA portal. What a shame, since it should have been posted to the town website upon certification of petition signatures.
Westwood Minute has obtained a copy of the petition and has added a short description of it to the article. A copy of the petition is attached below the article.
