WHS Student Athlete Joins Women's Lacrosse Team at Hofstra University

Senior high school student Cecelia Thurmond  of Westwood, who has played lacrosse and field hockey for the Westwood High School Wolverines, is one of nine student-athletes to join the Hofstra  University Women's Lacrosse team, the Pride, announced Coach Shannon Smith from Hempstead, New York, on Thursday, December 12, 2024.

According to the Hofstra Athletics Department, Ms. Thurmond, a midfielder, had 40 goals, 17 assists, 19 ground balls, and 11 caused turnovers as a junior.

The additions to Hofstra's Women's Lacrosse team include many student athletes who come from a family of college athletes. Ms. Thurmond is no exception in that her father, Mark, played football at Hofstra.

"What an exciting day for our program and these great young women," said Coach Smith, speaking of the addition of Ms. Thurmond and eight other athletes to the Pride. "The future of Hofstra women's lacrosse is bright with the addition of these talented ladies who will all bring incredible skill, talent, and drive to our program."

Thanks to the Hofstra Department of Athletics for sharing this news with Westwood Minute.
