Westwood Girl Scouts will kick off the annual effort by donating cookies to Westwood Food Pantry at the end of this month. The scouts' donation is special in that it honors 5 year-old Eddie Thomson's belief that “everyone deserves a treat.”
Eddie was 5 years old when he learned that food insecurity existed, and he was deeply touched by the issue. He decided to collect food donations instead of asking for presents for his birthday. After he passed away at age six in 2017, the Thomson family came up with the idea of Eddie's Food Drive to honor his memory and as a way to give back to the community. They launched the drive in 2019, and except for a brief one year hiatus due to the Covid pandemic, Eddie's Food Drive has continued annually. It is now in its sixth year.
