Four Westwood poets performed at this year’s Cambridge Arts River Festival, on Saturday June 21. Charles Goodman, Westwood Youth Poet Laureate for 2025-2026, was joined by Westwood Poet Laureate emerita Lynne Viti and emerita youth laureates Lucie Sechler and Elizabeth Lowney. Haitian-American poet Jean-Dany Joachim organized the day of poetry, which featured all- day readings by community poets, New England Poetry Club members, city and town poet laureates, and Massachusetts’ newly appointed state poet laureate Regie Gibson.
The River Festival began in the early 1970s as a way to encourage environmental initiatives and celebrate the city of Cambridge. Over the past fifty years, the festival has grown into a major cultural event, showcasing a wide range of artistic talent , from poets to jazz bands, acrobats and a world music ensemble.
