Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood earlier this month announced the appointment of Matthew Noone, formerly a head coach of the boys' lacrosse program at Foxborough High School, as Xaverian's varsity lacrosse head coach, citing his ability to build relationships and develop a positive culture.
Coach Noone was founder and coach of Foxborough High School's boys' lacrosse program from 2004 to 2023 and has served as a member of the Board of Directors for Foxboro Youth Lacrosse. He brings experience as both a player and a coach to Xaverian's program, and is recognized for his energy, leadership, and dedication to mentorship, states Xaverian in a press release.
According to Xaverian, Mr. Noone has centered his coaching philosophy on "developing well-rounded student athletes," focusing not only on athletics but academics, character, and community involvement, making Mr. Noone a "natural fit" for the Xaverian Hawks.
“Coach Noone’s success over more than two decades as a head coach speaks for itself, but what stood out to us most was his understanding that coaching is about much more than wins and losses," said Xaverian Athletic Director, Ted Currie. "He has a proven ability to build relationships, develop student athletes, and create a culture of accountability and excellence. Those qualities align extremely well with the mission and values of Xaverian, particularly our commitment to the formation of the whole person. We believe Matt will be an outstanding addition to our community.”
Coach Noone expressed gratitude to be part of Xaverian lacrosse, which he called one of the state's premier programs. He cited the foundation established by his predecessor, Coach Tim Gardener. “It is a privilege to join a program with such an outstanding tradition of excellence, pride, and success. I can’t wait to get started, meet the student athletes, and get to work," he said.
