Kierstin Khoury has spent the past 12 months crisscrossing the Commonwealth as Miss Massachusetts 2024. The Westwood native – and Westwood High School alumni – spent her year of service volunteering at philanthropic events as well as promoting her Community Service Initiative titled “Redefining Dyslexia: Turning Challenges into Superpowers”. A graduate of Westwood High School and High Point University, she has earned $18,000 through competing in the Miss America Opportunity.
“Throughout my year as Miss Massachusetts, I have spread the word on what it is like to be dyslexic,” said Khoury. “I have advocated to make changes in school systems throughout our state by speaking with Governor Maura Healy to better support students with dyslexia and partnered with Lindamood Bell, the school I attended for dyslexics, that taught me how to read. I’ve had the honor of speaking with thousands of students, parents, teachers and advocates on the importance of understanding dyslexia, while encouraging those with dyslexia to achieve their dreams.”
Khoury is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Dyslexia Association and says she plans to continue her advocacy through this role. “Although my year is coming to a close, my work with this community is just beginning," said Khoury.
The 2025 Miss Massachusetts competition was held last weekend at the Hanover Theater in Worcester, where Khoury passed her crown to the new state titleholder, 26-year-old Khailah Griffin, a 26 year old graduate of Northeastern University and Business Administration/Pre-Med major whose community service initiative is Blueprint: Creating Solutions for Unhoused Americans. Griffin held the title of Miss Cambridge. She plans to attend graduate school at Brown University and will compete to become Miss America in September in Orlando, Florida.
