Police Log: Medfield Man Arrested for OUI after Drinking Low-Alcohol Beer

Monday, March 23rd

Fleeing Suspect Identified by Her Vehicle

2:24 p.m. Police received a report that a shoplifting suspect ran into a white Jeep after exiting the Target store on University Avenue. Police were unable to locate the vehicle, but matched a photo of the suspect with a photo of the registered owner of the vehicle, a woman in her late 30s from Rockland. She is suspected of stealing a total of $180 in merchandise including clothing and linens. She has been charged with one count of shoplifting.

Shoplifting Suspect Flees in Rental Car

2:59 p.m. Staff at the CVS store on Washington Street informed police that a tall man in a leather jacket had left the store in a red SUV after putting items in his pocket without paying. The vehicle was identified as a rental car belonging to Hertz. Police are obtaining additional information about the stolen items form the store manager.

Shoplifting Suspects Believed to Have Stolen from Two Neighboring Stores

3:31 p.m. Staff at Nordstrom Rack on University Avenue alerted police to two females suspected of shoplifting. As an officer was waiting outside the store, staff attempted to confront them. The suspects failed to stop for the store employees, but the officer stopped them in the parking lot. 

Multiple items of unpaid merchandise were found in their possession, along with two devices used to remove magnetic theft detectors. One suspect is believed to have stolen merchandise worth $68 while the other is believed to have stolen merchandise worth $306.

Following information from Nordstrom Rack employees that the suspects had previously been in the nearby Target store before entering Nordstrom Rack, police investigated at Target. After reviewing video footage, Target discovered that one of the suspects had stolen $150 worth of baby or children’s items and placed the items in a dark-colored Ford Escape SUV. The suspect admitted to the theft.

The suspects were charged with shoplifting and unlawful possession of a theft device.

Saturday, March 21st

Suspicious Man in Blue Hyundai Harasses Young Walker in Lake Shore Drive/Pond Street Area

5:00 p.m. Police received a report that a man was yelling at a young girl who was wearing a backpack, while she walked in the area of Lake Shore Drive and Pond Street. The suspect’s vehicle was described as a blue Hyundai. It’s license plate was provided to police but appears to belong to a different vehicle with a different description.

Friday, March 20th

Medfield Man Arrested for OUI after Imbibing Low-Alcohol Beer

12:23 a.m. Police were alerted via radar of a black, Jeep Wrangler that was speeding at 49 m.p.h. in a 30 m.p.h. zone. Police activated their cruiser's blue lights but were unable to catch up to the car. 

While pursuing the vehicle, police observed it sway from side to side in its lane and cross the center, double-yellow line. Police made the traffic stop in the area of High Street and High Rock Street. 

The driver explained that he was on the way home to Medfield from Halfway Café in Dedham. He had the odor of alcohol on his breath and reportedly told police that he had consumed five Hometown Harvest IPA beers since 5 p.m., a low-alcohol-content drink. 

Police noted that his answers were slowed and at times incomprehensible. He refused a breathalyzer test and was arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. He was also cited with marked lanes and speeding violations and his driver’s license was suspended for refusing the breathalyzer test.

That Stinks

12:31 p.m. A female resident of Stoughton reported that while parked at the Gables University Station Apartment building on University Avenue, someone had wiped dog feces over the window of her silver GMC Terrain SUV.

Thursday, March 19th

Suspect in Rape Case Arrested at Pizzeria

10:09 a.m. A Westwood officer responded to a Westwood eatery upon request for mutual aid from a team of Norwood Police detectives. Police arrested a resident of Dedham on charges of raping a child.

Unfounded Motor Vehicle Break-In Complaint

2:40 p.m. A caller reported to police that her black Audi may have been the subject of a break-in while she was shopping at the Wegmans supermarket on University Avenue. She had received an automatic notification that her car trunk had been opened. She told police that when she returned to her vehicle to investigate, she saw a male in a four-door sedan parked behind her car. She told police that he waved at her, and drove away. 

Police reviewed surveillance video and observed the woman leave her car and return 10 minutes later. No one else was seen near her car, and it appeared that no break-in had occurred. The break-in report was deemed unfounded.

Aunt Unwittingly Drives Getaway Car for Juvenile Niece Suspected of Shoplifting

3:04 p.m. Police were alerted to a shoplifting suspect fleeing the CVS store in a white, Chevrolet Blazer. Police stopped the vehicle in the area of Washington Street and Clapboardtree Street, and encountered an adult driver and her juvenile passenger. 

The passenger, a juvenile female, admitted to taking items from the store without paying. The driver, the juvenile’s aunt, appears to have been unaware of her niece’s actions. The two returned to the store to pay $15 for hairspray and three bottles of soda. The Norwood residents were trespassed from the store for one year.

Wednesday, March 18th

Suspicious Male "Hunkering" in Woods

9:57 a.m. A resident of Juniper Ridge Road reported seeing a suspicious male in the nearby woods. Police responded to find the man “hunkering” in the woods. He was encouraged to move along.

One Thing Leads to Another

4:53 p.m. An officer conducted a random query of a passing vehicle on University Avenue. The 2006 Toyota Highlander was missing an inspection sticker. The officer noted that the registered owner had previously been stopped for lack of an inspection sticker. The officer made the traffic stop and issued a warning to the driver. While engaged in the stop, the officer discovered the driver had a warrant from Stoughton District Court for motor vehicle violations. The driver, a resident of Quincy, was arrested.

Tuesday, March 17th

Harassing Email Ads

7:27 a.m. An officer met with a resident of Burgess Avenue who reported receiving dozens of harassing advertising emails each day, often addressed to him with the word “Cock” appearing before his last name. The emails have been sent to both his personal and work email addresses.

Monday, March 16th

Shoplifter Claims, "It Ain't That Serious"

9:46 a.m. Police responded to CVS on Washington Street regarding a shoplifting. The suspect was described as a female dressed all in black. 

On arrival, police observed a female matching the suspect’s description who was getting into a white Ford Fusion in the CVS parking lot. The officer approached to speak with the suspect, who was calm and cooperative. 

She admitted to missing a scan of one item at the self-checkout, telling the officer, “It ain’t that serious.” 

However, the store manager informed police that three items worth a total of $21 were not scanned. 

The suspect was verbally trespassed from the store.

Suspicious Parties in Black Make Late-Night Visit to Car Dealership 

11:52 p.m. Police responded to Ira Acura on Providence Highway, where security for the car dealership reported two parties, dressed all in black, walking in the lot. Police investigated and found nothing amiss.
