Theft of landscaping tools

9:24 a.m. On Everett Street, at the site of a former manufacturing plant for bricks which is now used as a parking area for landscaping trucks, approximately $2,800 worth of landscaping equipment was stolen from two trailers of one company. The theft took place sometime between Thursday night and Friday morning. Items taken included two handheld electric leaf blowers, two electric string trimmers, two backpack blowers, batteries for tools and a battery charger.

Single vehicle accident when car slips

9:32 a.m. A witness observed a single vehicle speeding as it headed south in the left lane of Route 1 (Providence Highway). It made an abrupt turn and changed lanes into the right travel lane. The driver attempted to turn into Glacier Drive, but hit the decorative, landscaping stone wall at that corner.

The driver, a woman from West Roxbury, stated that her car slipped while making the turn. The force of the impact resulted in all front airbags deploying. The entire front of the car was caved in, and a left wheel of the vehicle had broken off due to the impact. The driver received a citation for speeding and was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Needham. Her passenger, a woman from Boston, was also taken to the same hospital.

Suspicious of a good deed

2:58 p.m. A resident of Mayfair Drive reported suspicious activity. Two men were offering to mow the lawn for free. The men represented that they were part of a church group. Police responded and were able to confirm that they were from the Church of Jesus Christ. A call was placed to the organization (with a 617 area code) to verify the fact. The men were allowed to perform a limited amount of yard work.

Single vehicle impact snaps telephone pole

5:42 a.m. While traveling east on High Street, in poor visibility with wind and rain, a single car collided with a speed limit sign and telephone pole. The telephone pole almost snapped in half, due to the impact. The driver, a Norwood woman, complained of having pain and was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Needham.

Harassment by old flame

9:56 a.m. A Westwood woman residing on Martha Jones Road reported to police that her ex-boyfriend was harassing her with unwanted messages. Police spoke to the man, also a Westwood resident, and told him to stop further communication.

Doctor detects a swindle

2:11 p.m. A doctor who resides on Arcadia Road reported an attempted swindle of $10,000. He told police that someone claiming to an FBI agent called him, told him that his medical license had been suspended, accused him of trafficking drugs, and demanded that the doctor pay a $10,000 fine by wiring it to a bank in Thailand. The doctor was able to record details of the caller and the originating phone number. Upon investigating the number, it was found to be tied to a differently named person in Yucaipa, California. Massachusetts authorities confirmed that the doctor’s medical license had not been suspended. The report to police will help create a record and paper trail in case a problem arises in the future.

Loss of a diamond ring

10:06 a.m. A Brockton resident reported a ring missing from her gym bag after visiting Lifetime Fitness where she is a member. She had placed her items in the gym locker, but did not check the bag’s contents until later. She stated that the ring went missing on June 28, 2021. Also, from June 28 until more recently, she had communicated with Lifetime Fitness management and attempted to file a report with the Brockton Police, which is the wrong jurisdiction. In October, she reported the loss or theft to Westwood Police. The ring has a square cut diamond and is appraised at $5,500.

Another locker room theft

10:58 a.m. On Thursday, October 28th, a Needham resident went to Lifetime Fitness around 3:15 p.m. and placed personal property in a gym locker. After the resident left the gym around 5 p.m., the resident received a text from his credit card company that informed him that over $2,000 in jewelry had been purchased from “Long’s Jewelers” at an unknown location. The man checked his wallet and discovered that five credit cards and $300 were missing. He notified his credit card companies and was advised to place a watch on his credit with the credit reporting bureau.

Would-be car thief?

2:52 p.m. A Westwood resident reported noticing suspicious activity on Washington Street. The resident observed a white man in a black Bruins jacket over a cranberry colored sweatshirt who was checking motor vehicles in a Washington Street parking lot. Police sent two police cars to investigate. The man was unable to be located. No car break-ins were discovered.

Found ATM card

9:03 p.m. Police received a found ATM card that a resident retrieved from an ATM machine at Chase Bank on High Street. Police attempts to contact the owner by phone were unsuccessful. Police logged the card into their property and evidence system.

Child with a phone dials 911

8:48 p.m. Walpole Police requested Westwood Police assistance for a 911 call from the area of Lois Drive in Walpole. Westwood Police found multiple cars and a small gathering outside a residence that was at or around the location of the 911 call. Westwood Police learned that the 911 call was made by a child who was playing with a phone.

Underage Host Throws Party for Over One Hundred

10:39 p.m. Police responded to a call of a disturbance regarding a large gathering at a home on Sycamore Drive. Upon arrival, they found a group of over one hundred juveniles walking away from the home. Another group ran into woods that abut the property.

Police identified the host, who was an underage resident. No parents were present.

Police contacted the youth’s parents who arranged for a friend – an adult – to come and take control of the house.
