Rear-ended when slowing for pedestrian

4:49 p.m. Two cars, a 2006 BMW driven by a resident of Hyde Park and a 2015 Hyundai driven by a Walpole resident, were traveling east on High Street toward Mill Street when the Hyundai struck the BMW in the rear. The BMW had slowed to a stop as a pedestrian was crossing the street in a crosswalk. The pedestrian was not injured, but both drivers were taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Needham.

Identity theft

1:27 p.m. A resident of Conant Road reported identity theft. A Samsung finance account was opened in his name without his knowledge or permission. Three thousand dollars of credit was used for a television and watch. The resident filed a police report in order to dispute the charges. Police advised the resident to place a watch on his credit and bank accounts.

Head-on collision

5:18 p.m. A head-on collision resulted when a 2003 Mercury sedan, driven by a Westwood woman, heading north on Gay Street, struck a 2019 Jeep, driven by a woman from Walpole. The Mercury had crossed over the double yellow line, into traffic, striking the Jeep head-on. The driver of the Mercury was transported to Newton Wellesley Hospital with visible injuries. The second driver was uninjured.

GPS tracker found affixed to car

5:49 p.m. A resident walked into the police station to report to an officer that he found a GPS device attached to the undercarriage of his Audi. He discovered it when he struck a curb, dislodging the device. The resident presented the device to an officer to be booked into the property and evidence system. Later, the officer was able to determine that the GPS had been placed there by the father of the reporting party.

Larceny in a six-figure sum

6:08 p.m. A resident of School Street reported to police that a large amount of money had been stolen from two of his Citizen Bank accounts. On October 13th, he noted one of his accounts had small deposits recorded of $0.30 and $0.15. On October 14th, a large amount was deducted from his account. A total of $177,000 was withdrawn electronically. The resident made a police report to establish a paper trail to show Citizens Bank.

Accident with juvenile driver and passenger

6:21 p.m. A 2013 Honda, driven by a female juvenile from Westwood, was crossing Pond Street from Church Street when it was struck by a 2018 Ford, driven by a man from Hartford, Connecticut. The driver of the Honda may have failed to yield at the intersection's stop sign. A juvenile passenger of the Honda was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Needham.

Shoplifting together for beauty

6:31 p.m. Staff of Ulta Beauty at University Station reported shoplifting by three females working together. Police observed video footage that showed the three enter the store, pause, and then go in three separate directions. They each placed merchandise into their personal bags, and left the store before officers arrived.

Advertising from a hate group?

9:40 a.m. A Westwood resident complained to police about a sticker on a light post near the ongoing construction at the corner of Washington and East streets. The sticker appeared to be an advertisement for a racist, fascist group. Police are investigating to see if they can determine who posted the sticker.



Suspicious man around child and dog

6:56 p.m. A woman residing on Pond Street reported to Police suspicious behavior that had occurred around 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. that day. The woman’s daughter was taking their dog for a walk in the area of Lakeshore Drive and Sexton Avenue when an older, partly bald, white man with no tattoos, face hair or glasses, drove by in a white sedan or hatchback with a noisy exhaust. He made a comment about the dog, appeared to try to exit the car, and then sped away. Police did a canvas of the street, locating at least one house with a doorbell camera. The homeowner of that house downloaded video footage and gave it to the police. The case is being referred to the Detective Bureau for follow-up.

Lt. Sheehy notes, on behalf of Westwood Police, that residents should report suspicious activity as soon as possible. Time may be of the essence.

Hear a loud noise overhead last week? 

10:14 p.m. Multiple callers from the area of Weatherbee Drive and Porter Street reported a disturbance from a low-flying helicopter. Police learned that Massachusetts State police did not have a helicopter in the area. Dedham Police, however, alerted Westwood Police that they learned a military helicopter was in the area for training.

10:35 p.m. Police officers responded to Del Frisco’s restaurant on University Avenue, where a physical altercation was reported to be taking place in the parking lot. When police arrived, no one was there. The restaurant manager told police that two men who were sitting at the bar began a heated exchange. They went outside and it became physical. They then left in two different cars. The manager told police that he would be banning the men from entering in the future.

Property line mediation

1:30 p.m. Officers mediated a dispute over the property line between two private homes on Gay Street. The issue was disposal of yard waste at the edge of one property. Police helped establish agreement as to the location of the property line.
