Why cell phones and driving don't mix
2:01 a.m. The driver of a Jeep was distracted by a cellular device while rounding the bend on Clapboardtree Street, between Milk and Thatcher streets. He lost control and the vehicle went off the road, striking a tree and a rock wall. The Jeep was damaged on its undercarriage and right front portion, disabling it. It was towed. The driver, a man from Walpole, was cited for impeded operation of a motor vehicle.
Shoplifters flee in getaway car
7:18 p.m. Loss prevention personnel at Nordstrom Rack at University Station reported a case of shoplifting. A male and female had attempted to take a shopping cart of merchandise without paying, but dropped the majority of items. Staff estimate they were able to steal one or two coats. The stolen items are valued at approximately $700.
The pair damaged the store’s automatic doors while pushing through in order to exit to a car that was waiting outside. The white sedan that they fled in was identified as possibly being a Hyundai that was parked in front of the store. There were problems with viewing video surveillance, so it is unknown at this time whether a license plate number was obtained.
