Police Log: Head-On Collision on High Street, Assisting with a Missing Person, Suspicious Contractors

Monday, April 18th
Head-on collision on High Street
10:20 p.m. Two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision on High Street. A 2009 Infinity traveling west, operated by a resident of Franklin, crossed the double-yellow line and struck an eastbound 2017 Chevy driven by a resident of Duxbury. Several witnesses recounted that the Infinity suddenly veered out of its lane into the oncoming traffic. Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage and were towed. The driver of the Infinity was seriously injured and transported to Beth Israel Needham. The driver of the Chevy was uninjured. Police issued the driver of the Infinity a marked lanes violation.
Tuesday, April 19th
A mighty wind
9:16 a.m. An officer responded to Wegmans parking lot following a call from a woman who requested assistance. She had opened the door of her 2015 Subaru Outback when a strong gust of wind blew her door into the Cadillac parked alongside her. The man inside the other vehicle became extremely irate. There was a three inch dent on the front passenger door of the man’s vehicle, due to the wind gust. Police noted the extreme gusts of wind at the time. Police facilitated an exchange of information and insurance.
License to stun
11:11 a.m. A Westwood resident who had just moved from upstate New York walked into the Police Station to inquire the state of the law regarding owning a taser type of electric weapon. Police informed her that a license to carry a firearm is required to have a stun gun, and that the license could be obtained by applying at the police station. The woman handed over her electric stun gun to police, requesting help with its disposal.
Friday, April 22nd
Not lost, but maybe confused
1:44 p.m. An employee of the Skating Club of Boston in Norwood reported a party in the area whom the employee believed to be a lost individual from Westwood. Police spoke to the woman, a 36 year-old from Sharon, and determined that she was not lost. She returned to her place of employment in Westwood.
Driver of purple Camaro arouses suspicions
3:18 p.m. A resident of Far Reach Road reported suspicious activity after being solicited by a young man driving a purple Chevy Camaro. He inquired about doing some work on the resident’s auto and driveway. The man was estimated to be in his early 20s with dark hair and diamond earrings. Police searched the area but did not find anyone matching that description.
Missing Medfield teen quickly located
7:42 p.m. Police responded to a request for assistance from Medfield Police regarding a missing juvenile. A detective headed to the area to assist with locating her. A short while later and by 9:30 p.m., she was found in a wooded area by other investigators. The teen was transported to a hospital to be checked.
Saturday, April 23rd
Credit cards pinched from purse
7:30 p.m. A woman from Braintree reported discovering three credit cards stolen after returning home from Panera Bread at University Station. She had been at the café with a friend, with her purse hanging over the back of her chair. After returning home, she began to receive emails from Jet Blue and Chase Bank regarding possible fraudulent use of her cards. She examined her purse and discovered her Jet Blue Mastercard and Chase Marriott credit cards were both missing. There were attempted purchases at the Apple store at Legacy Place for approximately $5,730 and two purchases of approximately $2,867. All of the transactions were declined. The victim cancelled her two credit cards.
Her friend, a woman from Rhode Island, also reported having three credit cards missing. She also received emails alerting her of possible fraud. There were attempted purchases of approximately $5,730 at the Apple store and $849 at Home Depot in West Roxbury on her cards. Neither transaction was accepted.
Detectives are investigating and are seeking store video from Panera Bread.
Sunday, April 24th
One car collision at Clapboardtree and Winter streets
12:21 p.m. A 2014 Jeep operated by an 18 year-old male from Wellesley struck a stop sign on the island at the intersection of Clapboardtree and Winter streets, sustaining heavy damage to the driver side front corner. The Jeep was traveling north on Winter Street, and had attempted to turn left to Clapboardtree Street, but cut the corner sharply, striking the nearby stop sign. Despite the damage to the vehicle, it was able to be driven from the scene. The driver was not injured. The damaged stop sign required a replacement.
Contractor initiates work without permission
5:18 p.m. A resident of East Street complained that she was approached by a man in a truck who informed her that her chimney was in need of repair and could be fixed for $7,000. After working on it and finishing that task, the man and his assistant proceeded to take apart a walkway and stairs on the property. He told the homeowner that they also needed to be fixed and the cost was $11,000. The resident interrupted that work on the walkway and stairs and asked for a write-up of the needed repairs at the total and final price. The resident received an email with the write-up, stating the that the repairs would cost $35,000.
In a related incident, a neighbor reported that the same contractors initiated work at her house without permission and then sought $6,500 for the unrequested work.
The contractors are described as a group of four to five men from Quincy.
