Stolen dirtbike recovered from Westwood resident

12:18 p.m. A Stoughton resident reported to police that he spotted his dirtbike, which had been stolen in 2020, being sold on Facebook. Detectives using information from Facebook and information from the victim learned that the bike had been photographed at a home in Westwood. Police executed a search warrant for the residence in Westwood.

The stolen bike was recovered, a Yamaha WR250 model Dirtbike. The Westwood resident from whom it was recovered had purchased the bike from someone in Medway in April 2022. The Westwood resident had checked the bike’s VIN to ensure that it was not stolen, but a paperwork error resulted in the bike never being entered as stolen property. Therefore, the Westwood resident had purchased the bike without knowing it was stolen property. Police investigated the Medway seller’s contact information which led to a dead end. No charges are contemplated.
