First Baptist Church of Westwood Is Collecting White Socks
For the past three years, the First Baptist Church of Westwood has held a drive to collect white socks for the homeless during the month of December. This year, at the recommendation of a disabled veteran who is a member of the church, they are expanding their outreach to include our veterans who are also in need.
The drive will kick off on Sunday, December 1, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 am, where a bin will be available for donations of new white crew socks. During December, socks may be donated at the church, located at 808 High Street, on Sundays from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 am, Monday-Thursday from 8:30 a.m. -1:00 p.m., as well as on Christmas Eve from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The homeless are always in need of new socks – for warmth, for comfort, and for good health. Half of the socks collected will be donated to the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program which has numerous clinic sites in shelters and hospitals to help provide for those experiencing homelessness.
Many veterans are also in need of clothing items, and the rest of the socks will be donated to the West Roxbury VA Hospital for veterans who are hospitalized or in outpatient treatment.
The church is looking forward to working with members of the community to help provide for those in need during this Christmas season.
