Police Log: Norwood Resident Arrested for OUI on Clapboardtree and More

Occasionally, a few facts from other sources may be woven into these stories.

Monday, August 15th

Juveniles Caught Exploring Home Under Construction

8:32 p.m. The owner of a house on Hartford Street arrived at the property, which is under construction, and saw flashlights inside the home. The owner called police. Responding officers found a juvenile couple inside, exploring the unfinished home. Police called their relatives to come pick them up.

Sunday, August 14th

Norwood Resident Arrested for OUI on Clapboardtree

6:15 a.m. Police responded to a report of a vehicle that was stopped, in the middle of the road on Clapboardtree Street. Police discovered an unresponsive man in the driver’s seat of a black, Volkswagen Jetta. Eventually, he became responsive and police conducted field sobriety tests. Based upon the test results and the officer’s observations, the subject was arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. The driver, a 25 year-old from Norwood, was also cited for driving with a suspended license. 

Saturday, August 13th

Trespassed from Wegmans

5:35 p.m. Wegmans contacted police for assistance in identifying a man who was caught shoplifting. Police identified the man as a 22 year-old from Brockton. Wegmans issued him a notice of trespass, prohibiting him from returning to the store.

Friday, August 12th

Soliciting on a Segway

2:28 p.m. A resident of Everett Street reported a man on a Segway who was banging on house doors and ringing doorbells. Police found the man, an 18 year-old, who told police that he was soliciting for a pest control company. However, he told police he did not have his solicitor’s permit on him, and claimed it was in his vehicle that was parked on Hawk Tree Drive. Arriving at Hawk Tree Drive, however, neither police nor the man could locate the permit. Police informed the man that he would not be allowed to solicit until he obtained a permit to do so.

Noisy Nuisance

9:41 p.m. Police responded to a complaint of dogs barking at a neighbor’s home on Buckmaster Drive. It was the fourth such response involving the same dogs. They were being cared for by a relative while the homeowners were away. A short time later, relatives arrived and took the dogs away with them.



Thursday, August 11th

Missing Passport

6:50 p.m. A resident of Gables University Station Apartments reported a missing passport to police. She was certain it had been lost from her residence.

Wednesday, August 10th

Just an Argument, Not a Crime

3:45 p.m. Police were dispatched to a residence on Willow Street in response to a request by the resident that a contractor be removed from the property. There had been a dispute over the contractor’s work, which the resident deemed unsatisfactory. Police explained to the parties that a dispute over quality of work is a civil matter, not a criminal one.

One Thing Leads to Another

4:30 p.m. An officer conducting stationary traffic enforcement at the intersection of Washington and East streets observed a GMC work van without an inspection sticker. The officer made a traffic stop. The driver told the officer that he did not have a license because it was suspended. Upon investigation, the officer discovered that the driver’s license had been revoked in 2013. 

Police arrested the man and issued him a citation for operating a motor vehicle after suspension. It was a subsequent offense to one or more prior offenses of the same kind. He was also cited for having no inspection sticker. The man, a 40 year-old from Braintree, was released on personal recognizance.

Monday, August 8th

ID Theft

9:06 p.m. Police responded to a report of possible stolen identity on Ellis Street. The Ellis Street resident told police that a few days ago, she received a notice from Experian, the credit reporting agency, that there had been a “a hard pull” on her credit score by Bank of America. On Monday, August 8th, the resident received a message from Bank of America, congratulating her on a new credit card with a $12,000 limit. 

She called Bank of America and reported the fraudulent application, and learned that the applicant had used some of her personal information. She cancelled the credit card, notified credit reporting agencies, and made a police report to create a paper trail, in case she had future problems with her credit.

Friday, August 5th

Mum’s the Word

9:28 p.m. Police responded to the Courtyard Marriott on University Avenue on the report of a disturbance. Two people were yelling in a guest room, causing a disturbance to other guests. Arriving police found a man from New York City in the room. He informed police that a female had left the hotel on foot, and he refused to provide any more details. Hotel staff described the female as light skinned, in her 30s and wearing a red top and glasses. Officers searched the surrounding area but did not locate any person matching that description.

Wednesday, August 3rd

Arrest for Assault/Fight

1:39 p.m. Police made an arrest at Gables University Station apartments on the report of an assault or fight involving residents there.
