How to Participate in Town Government - Week of May 14, 2023

This Monday, May 15th marks the beginning of voluntary water conservation, at the request of the Dedham-Westwood Water District. Westwood residents are asked to avoid non-essential outdoor watering and to limit their watering to Tuesdays and Fridays.

Also, Canton Street may be temporarily closing on May 16th, but the public discussion about its sidewalk will go forward that evening. 

This and other meetings of Westwood town government are listed below, based on available information at the time of this posting. 

MONDAY MAY 15TH

School Committee: Policy Review Subcommittee Meeting, Monday, May 15, 2023 at 3:30 p.m. The policies related to Instruction (Section I) and Education Agency Relations (Section L) will be reviewed. This in-person meeting will be held in the Westwood Public Schools District Administration Professional Development Room - Side B at 200 Nahatan Street.


Board of Library Trustees Meeting, Monday, May 15, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. On the agenda is a review of the gallery/exhibit policy, budget review, and updates regarding the Friends of Library and the 21st Century Fund. This in-person meeting will be held in the conference room of the Westwood Main Library at 660 High Street.


TUESDAY, MAY 16TH

Board of Health Meeting, Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 4:45 p.m. The board will hear a report from the public health nurse and will vote to reduce the permit fee for Farmer's Market vendors. It will appoint animal inspectors and burial agents. This in-person meeting will be held at 50 Carby Street in the Champagne Meeting Room.


Department of Public Works Meeting, Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. The sole item on the agenda is a discussion of the formal design of a sidewalk along Canton Street. Select Board members and Planning Board members will be in attendance. This in-person meeting will be held at Westwood Main Library at 660 High Street.


Dedham-Westwood Water District General Business Meeting (hybrid), Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. Discussion will include the topics of development at 22 Everett Street, PFAS removal design at White Lodge Treatment Plant, an update on new and existing projects, and reports from the treasurer, business manager, operations manager, and executive director. This meeting will be held at 50 Elm Street in Dedham. For information to join remotely, click here.


Planning Board Public Hearing and Meeting (remote), Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 7:00 pm. On the agenda are:

  • Continuation of the public hearing for a wireless communication overlay district special permit for a Verizon facility at 690 Canton Street;
  • Request to modify an Earth Material Movement Environmental Impact & Design Review at 290-294-298 Summer Street;
  • Consideration of Modification to Release of Tri-Partite Agreement for the Homes at 45 Open Space Residential Development - 20-79 Abbey Road.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 17TH

Zoning Board of Appeals Public Hearings (remote), Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. The board of appeals will hold a public hearing on revising its regulations allow for electronic submission and certification of applications. It will also hold public hearings on the following:

  • Request for an administrative change to plans where the rear elevation plan has changed at 15 Connors Street;
  • Request to construct a second story addition on an existing structure at 22 Reed Avenue that is nonconforming for lack of area and for exceeding front and rear setback limitations;
  • Application to construct an accessory apartment addition to the rear of the home at 37 Lake Shore Drive;
  • Application to add four window signs, exceeding the maximum allowed, at Playa Bowls, the commercial property at 745 High Street.

THURSDAY, MAY 18TH

Charter Review Committee Meeting, Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 7:30 a.m. The committee will discuss Town Charter Chapters 2, 3 &4 and additional chapters if time allows. This in-person meeting will be held in the Jaillet Meeting Room in the Westwood Police Station at 588 High Street.
