Through June 22, 2023, University Station in Westwood is partnering with the charity, The Salvation Army of Massachusetts, to host a Kids at Camp Donation Drive with a drop-off location at University Station's Five Below store.
“Overnight camp is a life-changing opportunity that is not often a reality for many low-income families. Every child deserves to experience summer camp," says Tim Veglas of The Salvation Army Service Extension.
The drive will support struggling local families to help ensure that their children will be able to attend camp at the charity's Camp Wonderland with essential items. The camp appears to have a religious theme from a review of its website, but the organization's mission appears broader.
The Salvation Army of Massachusetts describes itself on its Twitter page as "[h]elping neighbors in need overcome poverty, addiction and economic hardships" and on its Facebook page as "committed to doing the most good for the most people in the most need."
Suggested donation items that are being collected at Five Below include:
“University Station is pleased to continue supporting The Salvation Army. This donation drive supports local families in need to prepare kids for summer camp,” says Rebekah Macchia, Director of Marketing for University Station.

I am in complete support of the refurbishing and reopening of Norwood Hospital. I was working at Saint Elizabeth during this time. When steward took over our HOSPITAL group, Caritas Christie. They decimated not only our hospitals, but also two hospitals in the tiny nation of Malta.
Moderate or heavy snow showers, with a high of 38 and low of 24 degrees. Sunny for the morning, light sleet in the afternoon, ice pellets for the evening, clear overnight.
Senator Rush is correct re: the ambulatory services. One only has to drive on RTE 109/Westwood to see the number of out of town ambulances going through town at all times of the day. Then they have to get to Boston or Needham.
This is progress and I am glad to see the Select Board moving in the right direction. However, a majority of voters at last Monday's Special Town Meeting voted to recommend that the Select Board immediately cease its lawsuit against the Westwood Land Trust.
