WestwoodWinds Community Band Performs in Annual Free Summer Concert on August 7th

For the first time in three years, WestwoodWinds Community Band will be host its annual free summer concert on Monday August 7th, at 6:30 p.m., outside at St. Margaret Mary Church, 845 High St, Westwood, a change from the previously announced location of Westwood High School. All are welcome to attend.

The family -friendly concert will take place under the open sky. Audience members are asked to bring chairs or blankets for seating. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held inside the church. 

This year’s theme will be the Americas, with a variety of uplifting pieces celebrating both North & South America, including, but not limited to: A Disney Spectacular, Santana (a portrait), The Liberty Bell March, Mambo No. 5, The Muppet Show Theme, and Para No Verte Más.

The Band will be directed by Melissa Laurencio, current Prodigy Program Professor of Music at Westwood High School and Music Director of Roma Band Musicians, who takes over from founding member Jim Giurleo who recently retired.

 WestwoodWinds’s membership includes 30 volunteer musicians from Westwood and neighboring communities. Most are Westwood High School graduates or current Westwood residents.  The age of the band members range from early teens to retirees, and the skill level covers amateurs through semi-professionals. The band is open each year to amateur musicians with no audition.

Band members have prepared for this performance with weekly practices, and the audience can look forward to evening of enjoyable entertainment and a celebration of local music talent. 

WestwoodWinds is a non-profit organization with performances made possible by the community and its supporters.  While the performance is free, audience members are welcome to donate if they wish.
