Police Log: Suspects Steal Over $16K in Fragrances, Assisting an Eviction and Other Stories

The news described in Westwood Minute's weekly Police Log article series is primarily based on selected information from the Westwood Police Department's daily log and information provided by Lieutenant Christopher Sheehy and police staff. Occasionally, a few facts from other sources may be woven into these stories.
Thursday, November 30th
Assisting an Eviction
9:34 a.m. Two Westwood Police officers provided support to a constable who was evicting two long-term residents from the Budget Inn on Providence Highway. A 62 year-old man from Hyde Park, along with a 54 year-old woman, were evicted from their room and given a notice of trespass by the hotel owner. The police record does not indicate the reason for the eviction.
Suspects Steal Over $16,000 in Fragrances
8:49 p.m. Police responded to a report of a shoplifting that had just taken place at Ulta Beauty in University Station. The store manager told police that four females had walked directly to the fragrances section, placed items in bags, and left without paying. The incident took just minutes, but the loss was great, in the amount of $16,417.
Wednesday, November 29th
Drunk Driver Caught Traveling Against Direction of Traffic
1:15 a.m. A Westwood Police officer was dispatched to Providence Highway at East Street to assist two detail officers who had stopped a wrong-way driver. The officers pulled over the vehicle which was observed headed north in a southbound lane.
The officers observed symptoms of intoxication. Police arrested the driver, a 22 year-old female from Attleboro, for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor. She was also cited for a marked lanes violation and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
Tuesday, November 28th
Tussle Between Manager and Employee
4:00 p.m. Police responded to Chipotle restaurant on University Avenue, on the report of two employees fighting. Upon arrival, the manager, a resident of Boston, told police that the other man had not been showing up to work, and that the scuffle occurred after the employee had been terminated.
The terminated employee, a man from Holbrooke, told police that after being terminated, he had stepped forward to retrieve his personal belongings. The manager told police he interpreted the step forward as aggression, and responded by pushing the Holbrooke man away.
Police viewed video which showed the Holbrooke man throwing chicken on the floor and the manager throwing a pan at the Holbrooke man. The pan missed its target. The Holbrooke man did not want to pursue charges against the manager. The store issued a trespass notice to the Holbrooke man.
Police Identify Two Shoplifting Suspects from Quincy
8:15 p.m. Police responded to a shoplifting at Wegmans supermarket, where three suspects had just fled in a grey, Jeep Cherokee. A license plate number was obtained. Store surveillance showed that the suspects appear to be a man with a light-colored beard, a blonde female with a grey hoodie, and a younger male with black hair.
The two males reportedly pulled their Jeep up to a parking spot in front of the store, and the female exited with unpaid merchandise. The female attempted to load the merchandise into the vehicle. When store staff intervened, the suspects fled.
Police have identified two of the suspects. They are a 43 year-old man from Quincy and a 43 year-old woman from Quincy. The two individuals will both be summoned to Dedham District Court for shoplifting about $335 in merchandise.
Monday, November 27th
Failed Plan to Defraud with Cashier’s Check
12:08 p.m. A resident of Arcadia Road reported receiving a fake cashier’s check for $18,500. The resident had posted sales information for a Corvette on Craigslist. The resident informed police that a buyer, named “Jerry,” negotiated with the resident over the phone, and agreed to the $18,500 sales price. The buyer not want to see the vehicle prior to the purchase.
The two agreed that the buyer would mail a check to the Westwood resident who would arrange to ship the vehicle.
When the Westwood resident took the check to the bank, it was determined to be a fake. The resident called “Jerry,” who has not responded. Detectives are following up.
Disturbance on Harwich Circle
6:21 p.m. A resident of Harwich Circle reported that a woman was banging on the front door of his home. Police spoke to the woman, who is a Rhode Island resident. Police determined that the problem was a civil matter, not a criminal one.
