Victim of Identity Theft Reports Multiple Attempts at Fraud

7:59 a.m. Police responded to a home on Oak Street where the resident reported that someone had opened a credit card in the resident’s name. The resident was alerted to the fraud upon being contacted by a credit monitoring service.

On May 14, someone attempted to open a Citi card and Walmart credit card in the resident’s name. On May 24, someone attempted to open an Elan credit card, and on May 28, someone attempted to open an American Express account.

The resident has not suffered any known monetary loss at this time, and has frozen all of the resident’s credit cards and bank accounts.

Report of an Injured Hawk

3:56 p.m. Westwood’s animal control officer (ACO) was notified of an injured hawk on Dover Road, which was reported to be standing upright, with blood on its chest. Gift Card Scam

12:30 p.m. An officer was dispatched to an office building on Lowder Brook Drive where an employee of a local business reported being the victim of identity theft and fraud. The employee received a text message, supposedly from the president of the company, requesting that she buy gift cards from the Apple store for employees and text photos of the gift cards to the company “president.”

The employee did in fact make the purchases, buying three cards for $200 each at one location, two gift cards for $500 each at a second location, and two cards for $200 at a third location. The “president” informed the employee that she would be repaid by the end of the day.

Helping Nesting Turtles

7:22 a.m. A resident of Farm Lane reported two snapping turtles were nesting in a window well. The resident feared they were trapped. The ACO's opinion was that if removed, the turtles would return to the window wells. The ACO advised the homeowner to place planks in the window well to allow the turtles to climb out. Once the eggs hatched, the homeowner could use the planks to cover the window well to prevent a repeat occurrence of nesting turtles.
