Thanks to the Town of Westwood for contributing this news to Westwood Minute.

Members of the Westwood community are invited to attend an open house on Saturday, October 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fire Station 1 at 637 High St. The event will allow children to meet firefighters and “Touch a Truck” to get up close with fire apparatus including fire engines and ladder trucks and learn about fire safety.

In addition, Westwood Fire Chief Steven Lund and Assistant Fire Chief Colin McCarthy will be on hand to conduct tours and answer any questions residents have about the town’s plan to build a new main fire station on High St. The building, initially built in 1948, has multiple structural deficiencies and no longer meets safety standards. At next spring’s town meeting, residents will be asked to vote on funding a new station at the existing site.

“We hope residents will take us up on this invitation to come down to learn more about fire safety as well as the need for a new Fire Station 1,” said Chief Lund. “It’s an important project, and one that is needed for the safety of both the community and our firefighters.”
