Westwood Native Greg Keene Honored by Boston Celtics as Hero Among Us on Make-A-Wish Night
Westwood, MA native Greg Keene was honored by the Boston Celtics as a Hero Among Us during Make-A-Wish Night at the end of November, for his efforts and support of Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island, which grants life-changing wishes for critically ill children across New England.
Through his launch of an annual wiffle ball tournament fundraiser, Mr. Keene has raised more than $200,000 for the wish-granting organization. The fundraiser was Mr. Keene's answer for a way to give back, after as a teenager battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia, he received his own wish fulfillment. Make-A-Wish transformed his backyard into a miniature Fenway Park, fulfilling a dream that brought him immense joy during treatment.
On Monday, November 25th, during a home game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Make-A-Wish Night, the Boston Celtics honored Mr. Keene for paying it forward as a Hero Among Us. The Celtics established the Heroes Among Us program in 1997, in recognition of outstanding individuals who have made exceptional and lasting contributions to their communities. The Celtics honor a Hero Among Us at every home game.
