The Boston Celtics, in partnership with Arbella Insurance, visited Camp Ponkapoag in Canton earlier this October to unveil a newly renovated outdoor basketball court as part of the Arbella Insurance Homecourt Makeover Program. Celtics forward Grant Williams helped break in the court as he led a youth basketball clinic for children ages 7-13 from the YMCA of Greater Boston.

Camp Ponkapoag is the only residential camp that the YMCA of Greater Boston offers in Massachusetts. Its summer camp services 240 kids a week from low-income areas for 10 week-long sessions, offering many recreational and leisurely programing options.

The refurbished black top court is complete with a new coat of sports surfacing, freshly painted lines and logos, two new hoops and rims and a 10-foot containment fence on the court’s outer side. This court makeover provides a safe space for kids to play in, as the previous grounds were in dire need of service.

For the past six seasons, Arbella Insurance and the Boston Celtics have teamed up to renovate outdoor spaces in the community with the Homecourt Makeover program. Initially providing Celtics-themed courts to the backyards of young Celtics fans, the program has shifted to transforming outdoor community center spaces to increase the depth of community and youth impact.

“Arbella Insurance is thrilled to partner with the Boston Celtics to provide the YMCA of Greater Boston with a new basketball court for the campers to enjoy,” said Arbella Insurance Chief Marketing Officer Gayle O’Connell. “At Arbella, we are committed to the local community and are pleased to offer programs such as Home Court Makeover to deserving organizations who make a tremendous impact on the kids of Boston.”
