A two-alarm fire that occurred around 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Westwood’s Burgess Avenue on the evening of Thursday, December 26, 2024, was extinguished after a response by Westwood Fire Department and neighboring towns.
The fire at 261 Burgess Avenue, near the intersection of that street with Hartford Street, was reported to be a living room fire, according to Canton Firefighters IAFF Local 1580 on the social media platform, X.
Along with Canton Fire Department, Westwood received mutual aid from Walpole, Needham, Medfield, Norwood, and Dedham fire departments.
The fire appears to have been extinguished sometime around 9:00 p.m.
Updated 12/26/2024 at 11:29 p.m. A reference in the headline to "Burgess Street" has been corrected to "Burgess Avenue."
The cost of $27,000 could have been avoided if the tax payers were notified about the idea of taking the WLT to court and it was discussed at a regular town meeting. Especially when a town takes the unusual step of taking its own land trust to court.

The Select Board will never admit they were wrong, and thus, will press forward. And based on Town Council's very bad advice.
