On January 16th, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of over 300,000 Samurai Mini Smoke Alarms, after the manufacturer learned of eight reports of the units failing to operate, and also the recall of thousands of Vornado VH2 Whole Room Heaters for presenting electric shock and fire hazards.

The Samurai Mini Smoke Alarms were exclusively sold by HSN and HSN.com. According to the recall notice, the smoke alarms can fail to notify consumers of a fire, posing a risk of smoke inhalation or death. The company Three61 has received eight reports of the alarms failing to work in the presence of smoke. No injuries have been reported.

The smoke alarms measure about 2.5 by 2.5 by 2.5 inches. For more details to identify whether you have this item in your home, and how to respond to the recall to get a free replacement, click here.

The Vornado VH2 Whole Room Heaters were sold on Amazon.com for around $90. No incidents affecting consumers have been reported, however, the recall notes the potential of the power cord to partially detach from the heater enclosure. Cord damage can result over time, posing an electric shock and fire hazard. Affected consumers should stop using the units and contact the company for a replacement.
