Nominations are being accepted from now through March 27th for the Recognize-A-Youth (RAY) Award, which honors young people in the community who demonstrate personal initiative, a commitment to community service, and a strong ethic of caring for others, Westwood Youth & Family Services announced this week.
The RAY Award has been co-sponsored by Westwood Youth & Family Services and Westwood Rotary Club since 2001. Past recipients have been recognized for a wide range of efforts. These have included tutoring a younger neighbor, launching a social media campaign to challenge stereotypes, organizing a classic movie club at the Council on Aging, and creating and selling bracelets to raise funds for a local nonprofit.
RAY Award recipients are recognized at a Rotary event where they receive a certificate of appreciation and a small gift. This year's award ceremony will be in May. In 2025, RAY award recipients were Grace Foscaldo, Charlie Goodman, and Olivia Nasr.
Nominations may be submitted by community members who are not family membera. Nominations should be made for Westwood residents aged 18 years and under and can be made for both individuals or a group community service effort. Nominations can be made by filling out an online form.
Thanks to Westwood Youth & Family Services for contributing this news to Westwood Minute.
The Select Board has no one to blame but themselves for what has transpired the past two days.
Thank you for your commnet with some very valid observations. As a resident of over 35 years I have participated in the past in Town Meeting and do vote. But now, as with other senior residents, it is not always possible to attend the Select Board meeting in the evening.
This didn't need to happen. Unfortunately, out of everything described of said individual, by the individual, there were key attributes not recognized and spoken of.
Sunny, with a high of 18 and low of -4 degrees. Sunny for the morning, partly cloudy for the afternoon, clear overnight.
Rob - your departure is Westwood's loss. I know well the time, effort and energy our elected officials expend. Thank you for all you have done on Westwood's behalf.

337 people showed up on a cold February night to vote against a non-binding resolution.
Yes, they did.
And this attendance and participation demonstrates how strongly folks on both sides of this issue feel about it, and how a majority of voters want the Select Board to withdraw from the lawsuit. It was a far larger turnout than in annual town meetings.
It is false to assume a large majority of voters want the Select Board to withdraw. You can only say that the majority who showed up wanted to say that. According to Google AI, the average turnout at annual town meetings is 3.9% from 2018-2025, this was 4.6%.
