On Wednesday evening, February 11th,  Westwood's Finance and Warrant Commission will hear presentations from town officials on warrant articles for May's upcoming Town Meeting. A proposed budget is expected to be among the articles discussed.

Also on the agenda is a citizens' petition proposing bylaw amendments which would make electronic voting the preferred method of tabulating votes on any warrant article, amendment, or related action. It also would replace a current bylaw provision that allows for use of a secret ballot with text that instead describes when a standing vote should be taken. A copy of the petition is attached below this article.

Listed on FinCom's agenda as presenters are: Town Administrator Connor Read, Deputy Town Administrator Molly Fitzpatrick, Finance Director/Treasurer/Collector Stephanie McManus, and Select Board members Marianne LeBlanc Cummings and Joseph Previtera.

Residents who wish to view the meeting can access it via Zoom:

Updated 2/11/2026 at 11:06 p.m. Upon obtaining a copy of the citizens' petition, Westwood Minute has added a very brief description of its contents to this article and has attached a copy of the petition below this article.

What is the citizen's petition about? I checked the town website, and the only information I could find on town meeting articles was from last year. The public hearing dates for 2026 are posted as February 24-25. All these town meetings have online meeting packets accessible to board members, containing the materials to be discussed. Those materials can be flagged as public or private (e.g. draft motions, staff summary of agenda, etc.) and shared, as the Planning Board did for many years.

Apparently, you need to submit a public records request through the town's FOIA portal.  What a shame, since it should have been posted to the town website upon certification of petition signatures.

Today at 9:02 a.m., I received a revised meeting agenda for FinCom's public hearing scheduled for tonight at 7:00 p.m. Does anyone know why this citizens' petition was removed at the 11th hour?
